How do I get a motorcycle license if I don't know anyone who rides?

I know how to ride, but I've never been licensed. The North Carolina DMV website said I have to have a licensed motorcyclist with me in order to go to the DMV to take the driver's test. I'm new to the area and don't know anyone who rides, so that complicates things. Does anyone know if there is a way around this rule?|||Go to a local motorcycle dealership, (preferably Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, or Suzuki, sales people at Harley dealerships are snobs if you鈥檙e a new rider, very few new riders buy a Harley). Just ask them where the nearest motorcycle license classes are and they should get you started. Usually the classes cost around $150.00 and the motorcycle is provided by the organization giving the class.

I know here in Florida once you complete and pass the class, (it鈥檚 2 or 3 weekends) you get a certificate that you take down to the DMV and you are given you motorcycle license.

Call your local dealerships, they should be helpful, they know once you get your license you will want to buy a bike. Some dealerships even give you a discount on the purchase of a bike when you show them the receipt for the motorcycle class.

The AMA sponsors a really good rider education program:

Tell him your situation, bikers are bros if he's true he'll look out for a bro.|||Show up without one and when they write the ticket ask if they take cash.|||This is false. You get a learners permit. This means you can NOT ride with a passenger, there is nothing saying someone else has to be there with you. Then to get a regular license you go take a driving test (not sure if they do it in a lot or on-road in NC). No one needs to ride with you to take the test.

First ,go to the Div. of Motor veh, (where ya get license plates and renew driver's license and ask for the packet to take the written exam to get your temporary permit. While you are there, ask about what places or vocational schools offer the Motorcycle Safety Foundation endorsed schools that teach you how to ride and do it safely and learn defensive manuevering. They will give you a "waiver" after completing the course and ya don't have to take the state riding part of the drivers test. I did this after riden' for 37 yrs and believe me, "They taught this ol' dog some new tricks. Remember it has to be MSF endorsed course.|||Find a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course in your area (go to www.msf-usa.org). You can take a beginning rider course and they will assist you in getting your license. Their website states that their course completion card will qualify you for a waiver of the test in most states. When I took it (years ago), a tester from the DMV came to the last session of the course, and administered license testing there.
