I had lost my permit a couple months ago. I received my permit on May 7th 2008, but I lost and retrieved it back by going to DMV and asking for a new one on 9-22-08.. Does that mean to get my license, I'll now have to wait a year from 9/22 or 5/7..?
I'm so worried...

The system will show your original permit issued on 5-7-08. Just because you lost it, doesn't change anything. So, a year from 5-7-08.
