Driving hardship permit in north carolina?

what is the rules for getting a hardship permit in north carolina for a teen? i have looked everywhere, so i dont even know if north carolina gives hardship permits.

please, dont tell me to go look it up. i have. just give me some info or a web link. and yes i have tried the DMV website.

thanks|||According to the NC drivers' handbook it says "NC does not issue a hardship driving permit or license" but it also says before that "the steps in graduated licensing must still be followed even if the Driving Eligibility Certificate is issued due to hardship conditions."

I'm going to say you can get your drivers license but there has to be proof that you're in school and that there would be a hardship placed on your or your family if you do not have a license. It just won't be labeled as "hardship."

Here's a link to the online version of the handbook (you need Adobe to read it):

BTW, my husband had a hardship license when he was 14 because his mom was a single parent who worked as a nurse and wasn't able to pick up him and his two siblings so he was allowed to pick them up to school and then drive home. That was about it. Not sure if TN still does the hardship license though...
